Guild president and TGA among those addressing inaugural pharmacy sector-themed medicinal cannabis conference.
A new event for 2020, the inaugural ACannabis Conference has developed a program specifically for the pharmacy and healthcare sector. The conference will enable pharmacists to hear from leaders in the medicinal cannabis industry to increase knowledge about the science behind the endocannabinoid system, as well as hear from those with practical experience in prescribing and treating patients.
It is also an opportunity to learn more about navigating the accompanying regulatory landscape. Hosted by the Medicinal Cannabis Industry Australia (MCIA), the ACannabis Conference is designed to help define and shape the future of the Australian medicinal cannabis sector.
In a release, MCIA says: “This is a must attend conference for Australian Pharmacists. This new therapy has the potential to not only assist your patients but it will also add a new and exciting category to your business. Come and hear why”.
Among the key sessions are:
- Science behind medicinal cannabis – by Prof. Jonathan Cebon, Programme Lead – Cancer, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Clinic; Dr Scott Smid, Senior Lecturer, The University of Adelaide; and Prof Iain McGregor, Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics
- Doctor and patient experiences – interact with a panel of leading medical professionals in the medicinal cannabis industry, as they discuss their prescribing experience
- Role of pharmacies – hear from George Tambassis, National President, The Pharmacy Guild of Australia
- Regulation of medicinal cannabis – hear from the TGA and Office of Drug Control, along with an expert in trust and integrity across supply chains
