The menopausal transition affects far more than vasomotor symptoms alone. Oestrogen decline drives changes across virtually every body system, from cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health to mood, sleep, digestion, and the genitourinary tract. However, clinical management often focuses on the most obvious vasomotor presentations.
This 90-minute masterclass, presented by Activated Probiotics Director of Education Rebecca Edwards, deepens practitioners' understanding of the physiological changes occurring across each body system during the menopausal transition, and explores evidence-based complementary strategies for supporting women through perimenopause and beyond.
From phytoestrogen therapy and targeted probiotic interventions to nutritional support for the metabolic shifts of midlife, this session equips practitioners with a comprehensive, multi-system framework spanning vasomotor symptom management, cardiovascular risk reduction, bone density preservation, mood and sleep support, digestive health, and genitourinary care.
Learning Outcomes:
  1. Describe the multi-system physiological impacts of oestrogen decline during the menopausal transition, including cardiovascular, skeletal, neurological, digestive, and genitourinary changes.
  2. Evaluate the role of standardised soy isoflavones as selective oestrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) in managing menopausal symptoms, and their clinical positioning relative to and alongside menopausal hormone therapy.
  3. Apply evidence-based, strain-specific probiotic interventions to address vaginal microbiome dysbiosis, mood and sleep disruption, digestive symptoms, cholesterol changes, and bone density loss associated with menopause.
  4. Identify the increased nutritional requirements of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women and integrate targeted nutritional strategies to support protein adequacy, metabolic health, and body composition changes.
  5. Develop individualised, complementary treatment plans that address the interconnected health risks of the menopausal transition using a multi-system approach.
